Check out the new waste carts on display

The City will move to automated cart collection service on September 8, 2025. Automated
collection is when the driver uses a mechanical arm on the side of the truck to lift and empty
carts, without exiting the vehicle.

All residential properties will receive a small 120L organics cart, with a gravity lock and a large 240L garbage cart. From February 3 to March 31, residential property owners will be able to request to substitute a smaller (120L) garbage cart at no charge. If your property has more than one dwelling unit, you can also request additional carts at no charge. To help decide what size garbage cart you prefer, garbage and organics carts are on display at the following City facilities until March 31.

Visit the following locations to take a sneak peek at the new carts:

  • Service Barrie, first floor of City Hall, 70 Collier Street
  • Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive
