Choose your carts

Carts are rolling to the curb on September 8 for organics and garbage!  A small 120L organics cart with a gravity lock and a large 240L garbage cart will be delivered to all properties at no charge this summer.

Property owners can take advantage of an early opportunity to request to substitute the large garbage cart for a smaller (120L) garbage cart via the Cart Selection Tool until March 31 at barrie.ca/CurbsideCollectionChanges.

To help decide what size garbage cart you prefer, garbage and organics carts are on display at the following City facilities until March 31:

  • City Hall (Service Barrie, 1st floor), 70 Collier Street
  • Allandale Recreation Centre, 190 Bayview Drive
  • East Bayfield Community Centre, 80 Livingstone Street E
  • Peggy Hill Community Centre, 171 Mapleton Avenue
  • Parkview Centre, 189 Blake Street
  • Barrie Public Library Downtown Branch, 60 Worsley Street
  • Barrie Public Library Painswick Branch, 48 Dean Avenue
  • Barrie Landfill & Environmental Centre, 272 Ferndale Drive North

Prevent frozen pipes this winter

Cold temperatures can freeze pipes, leading to no water or costly damage. Protect your home by following these helpful tips:

  • Insulate pipes most prone to freezing. Seal air leaks in your home to stop cold air from
getting in (windows, doors, electrical wiring, dryer vents and pipes).
  • Unscrew any outdoor hoses and turn off the outdoor water supply and let the taps drain.
  • Ensure you know where to find your main water shut-off valve, in case your pipes burst.

In extreme cold weather, be sure to monitor the possible appearance of coloured water and
reduced pressure or flow, as these can be indicators of a service that is freezing.

What to do:

  • Keep garage doors closed if there are water supply lines in the garage.
  • Open kitchen, bathroom and laundry cabinet doors to allow warm air to circulate around the plumbing.
  • Keep all areas of your house warm, even when you’re away.

Reminder: Property tax bill due dates

Interim 2025 tax bill installment due dates are February 28 and April 30, 2025. Interim tax bills are issued each January. If your taxes are paid through a mortgage company or a pre-
authorized payment plan, you will not receive an interim tax bill.
