Shipley given shadow cabinet role focused on reducing crime

Date:

Barrie MP Doug Shipley has taken on a new role on Parliament Hill.

Shipley, the representative for Barrie—Springwater—Oro Medonte, was named the Conservative Party’s new associate shadow minister for combatting crime on Wednesday by Pierre Poilievre, the party’s leader.

As such, Shipley was included in the Conservatives’ shadow cabinet, which opposition parties organize to help hold government ministers accountable.

A release issued by Shipley’s office said the new role will focus on advocating for policies aimed at reducing crime and improving safety across Canada.

“I am honoured to have been selected by Leader Pierre Poilievre for this important role,” Shipley said in a statement. “Ensuring the safety of our communities is a top priority, and I am committed to working diligently to implement effective measures that will make our streets and neighbourhoods safer for everyone.”

Shipley previously served as the party’s associate shadow minister for public safety.

In last month’s federal election, Shipley was re-elected for the second-consecutive time, beating Liberal hopeful Rose Zacharias by more than 4,000 votes.
