Baycats start title defence on losing note

Date:

The Barrie Baycats’s defence of their 2024 IBL title had a rocky start.

The Baycats opened the season on May 15 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, dropping a close 6-4 game before the home crowd at Athletic Kulture Stadium.

Despite the loss, the Baycats rallied from 3-0 and 4-2 deficits to push the game to ten innings, before the Maple Leafs pulled away for good.

The Baycats then hit the road to take on Welland on May 17, falling in a lopsided decision 9-3. One of the few bright spots was Ryan Rijo’s third-inning home run, which gave the visitors an early lead.

The Baycats head back home tonight to face off against the Guelph Royals, in a rematch of the 2024 IBL Finals.

First pitch is at 7:35 p.m. and tickets are free for kids 12 and under.
