Ottawa Titans re-sign hot shot rookie shortstop

Date:

The Ottawa Titans have re-upped shortstop Aaron Casillas for the 2025 Frontier League season, after last year’s campaign saw him nominated for Rookie of the Year.

The 23-year-old Californian played in 55 games for the Titans last year, when he had 11 extra-base hits, 23 RBIs, and posted a .299 batting average.

Casillas helped Ottawa secure its second playoff berth in the last three seasons by hitting a walk-off single against the Québec Capitales on August 31. The Capitales ultimately got their revenge by eliminating the Titans in the best-of-three divisional championship series, and going on to win the league championship.

Casillas played five years of collegiate basketball, split between California State University, Bakersfield and California Polytechnic State University, where he was a .276 hitter with 45 extra-base hits.

The Titans also announced they traded left-handed pitcher Tyler Jandron to the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association for righty Brett Garcia and future considerations.

Ottawa starts its 2025 season on May 9, when they will travel to North Carolina to play the Down East Bird Dawgs. The home opener is slated for May 20, when the Titans will welcome the New Jersey Jackals at Ottawa Stadium.
