Ottawa Sports Need to Knows

Date:

Athletico Ottawa (soccer):

Athletico Ottawa will play its last regular season game against Vancouver FC this Saturday. Ottawa currently sits in third-place in the league table, and has already clinched a spot in the postseason.

Ottawa Charge (hockey):

The schedule for the PWHL’s second-ever season has officially been released. The Ottawa Charge and the league’s other five teams will play 30 games this year, with the top four squads qualifying for the Walter Cup playoffs.

The Charge’s first game is on Nov. 30, against their cross-province rivals, the Toronto Sceptres.

Ottawa Black Bears (lacrosse):

The Black Bears, Ottawa’s new professional lacrosse team, are set to begin their inaugural season on Nov. 29. Last week, the Black Bears wrapped up a two-day tryout that resulted in the signings of forward Owen Hill and defenceman Matt Duncan.

The team will play their home games at the Canadian Tire Centre.

Central Canada Hockey League (junior hockey):

The Rockland Nationals remain undefeated through the first nine games of the CCHL season, taking an early stranglehold on the Yzerman division. In the Robinson division, only the Kemptville 73’s and Brockville Braves have started the year with a winning record.

University Athletics (various):

It’s a busy time in collegiate sports as the hockey and basketball seasons are set to kick off this weekend for both the Carleton Ravens and the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.

Also, the Gee-Gees football team will look to hold onto the final playoff spot in a crucial matchup against the University of Toronto. Meanwhile, Carleton will look to pull off an upset against an undefeated Laurier squad during the team’s final regular season game.
