Here’s the latest from the Ottawa Police Service…
On Oct. 8, a man was arrested with a hate-motivated incident that occurred the previous day. At approximately 9:15 a.m., officers responded to a call regarding an unprovoked assault in the 3000 block of Carling Avenue. A 32-year-old man has been charged with two counts of assault. The victim and the suspect were not known to each other.
On Oct. 9, The Ottawa Police Service (OPS) executed a second search warrant at a location in the 100 block of Montreal Road selling illicit psilocybin. As we previously reported, A warrant was previously executed at the same location on Oct. 3, resulting in the seizure of psilocybin products and Canadian currency, and one individual was charged. Despite the initial enforcement action, the illegal shop had since re-opened. As a result of the October 9th warrant, officers seized further quantities of loose and packaged psilocybin products and $752 in Canadian currency. An additional individual has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of proceeds of crime. Police will continue to closely monitor the opening and re-opening of illegal shops selling controlled substances, including psilocybin, and will take decisive enforcement action to shut down these operations and disrupt the associated unlawful activity.
The Ottawa Police Service also announced its first-ever Indigenous recruitment event, taking place on November 4 and 5. This unique gathering is designed to inspire the next generation of officers and strengthen connections with Indigenous communities. It is tailored for Indigenous people, those working within Indigenous communities, or anyone interested in pursuing a policing career rooted in cultural understanding and community service. The event will also feature live music, food, and networking opportunities, creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere.
