Pancakes were on the menu, but community spirit was the main attraction.
About 200 residents gathered Oct. 17 at the Cookstown Curling Club in Innisfil for the inaugural Community Pancake Breakfast hosted by Barrie–Innisfil MPP Andrea Khanjin.
Several dignitaries joined Khanjin, who also serves as Ontario’s minister of red tape reduction, at the event, including Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin, Barrie-South–Innisfil MP John Brassard, members of South Simcoe Police and representatives of Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services.
Georgian College firefighter students also volunteered at the event.
The breakfast featured locally made pancakes, while families had the chance to explore a fire truck and children enjoyed games and activities in a dedicated kids’ zone.
Khanjin said the event was intended to bring community members together.
“The inaugural Cookstown Pancake Breakfast was aimed at bringing people together, strengthening our neighbourhoods, and creating joyful family moments and lasting memories for residents of all ages,” she said.
“I am glad to champion such opportunities that foster a stronger sense of belonging and bring residents together to celebrate the spirit of our community.”
In a social media post following the event, Khanjin thanked everyone who helped make the breakfast a success.
“A huge thank you to my office team, volunteers, Innisfil Fire & Rescue Services, and Georgian College students for making the Pancake Breakfast a great success,” she said.
Plans are underway for the next pancake breakfast.
