Construction is underway on a new transitional housing project in Barrie’s south end.
Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on July 11 at Mapleview Community Church for the church’s 31-unit supportive housing development at 300 Mapleview Dr. W.
The three-storey building will feature 31 bachelor apartments, including five fully accessible units. It will operate in partnership with Hollyhomes Corp. Ltd.
First announced in August 2025, the team behind the project intends to provide stable housing and support services for residents experiencing homelessness and housing insecurity. Tenants will have access to wraparound supports, including mental health services, job-readiness programming and spiritual care, to help them transition to permanent housing.
Mayor Alex Nuttall said the project highlights the impact community partnerships can have in addressing housing needs.
“The groundbreaking of 31 new supportive housing units at Mapleview Community Church demonstrates how community partnerships can deliver economical and effective housing solutions,” he said.
“This project is a great example of creating meaningful impact through thoughtful investment while providing much-needed supportive housing for residents in Barrie.”
The City of Barrie is contributing $3.05 million to the development through its Affordable Housing Community Improvement Plan.
Mapleview Community Church initiated the project as part of its commitment to supporting vulnerable members of the community. Announcing the development last year, Pastor Jay Davis said the initiative reflects the church’s mission of walking alongside people in need while helping them move toward healing, stability and permanent housing.
