A 47-year-old Barrie woman has been charged with first degree murder in the death of her 10-year-old child.

Police said the child was found dead after officers were called to a well-being check on New Year’s Eve.

Police said when officers arrived at the residence in the Bayview Drive and Little Avenue area at approximately 3 p.m., the woman was found inside and was taken to a local hospital. Once she was cleared medically, investigators laid the charge on Jan. 6, and she was remanded into custody.
