Whooo you going to call if there’s an owl in distress?
Apparently, the Ottawa police.
An Ottawa cop stepped up last week to help an owl spotted near Stittsville.
The saga started on Friday when a concerned resident called the police after spotting an injured owl on the roadway near Robert Grant Avenue and Fernbank Road.
The owl was moving but unable to get itself to safety, police say.
But as luck would have it, Constable Kevin Young was on duty, and he’d been taking steps to become an apprentice falconer.
āI find birds of prey fascinating and Iāve always loved them,ā he said when asked how he got into the specialty.
Constable Young secured the injured barred owl and transported it to a local bird sanctuary for treatment. Staff there told Ottawa police they believe the owl was likely struck by a vehicle, but its prognosis is good.
