This Week in Barrie: Week of October 27

Date:

Looking to get rid of your pumpkins after Halloween? Your new organics cart is ready to help!

There’s plenty of room – so toss in those old pumpkins (just remember to remove the candles or decorations!), and any spoiled fruit or veggies leftover from your summer garden.

For a full list of what goes in your organics cart, visit barrie.ca/OrganicsCollection.

Curbside Battery Collection Week returns November 3 to 7

To participate, place filled battery recycling bags ON TOP of either your garbage or organics cart on your regular curbside collection day next week. If no cart is set out, place bags on the ground at the curb. Bags must be clearly visible to the driver of the collection vehicle. Do not place bags inside carts or recycling containers.

Battery recycling bags are available for pickup until November 7. For the full list of pickup locations and program details, visit barrie.ca/BatteryCollectionWeek.

Reminders for setting your carts at the curb

When placing materials curbside, remember to do the following to ensure collection:

  • Place carts so they do not block bike lanes or sidewalks. On collection day, carts may
be placed on the boulevard and/or the driveway.
  • Allow for 2 ft of clearance between each cart and from other waste materials set out for
collection. This gives the arms on the truck the room needed to pick up the carts.
  • Allow for 2 ft of clearance from any obstacles such as parked cars, fences, trees,
snowbanks etc. This gives the arms on the truck the room needed to pick up the carts.
  • Make sure cart lids are fully closed. Do not overfill your cart.
