Colts open the season with a 6-2 win

Date:

The Barrie Colts started the new OHL season on the right foot, dispatching the visiting Guelph Storm 6-2 on Saturday.

But that wasn’t the only treat in store for fans at the Sadlon Arena. Before the game, a group of five of the Colts’ newest draft picks and young incoming players greeted fans outside the West Entrance.

The group of players — 2025 first-round draft pick Aleksandr Sementsov, Hagan Bach, Andrei Gudin, Luc Gauvreau and Ben Bowen — also stayed on hand to sign autographs.

When the action moved to the ice, the Colts wasted no time getting on the scoresheet, with Brad Gardiner opening the scoring at 5:47 of the first period.

Then just moments later, Calvin Crombie extended the lead at 9:15, with the the Colts’ William Schneid adding another before the end of the first.

It was more of the same in the second frame, though the Storm started the period by cutting into the Colts’ lead.

But that was followed by goals from Joe Salandra, Carter Lowe and Schneid, extending the home team’s lead to five. The Storm would claw back by one before the end of the frame but it was the final score of the game.

Barrie goaltender Arvin Jaswal earned his first career OHL win, making 25 saves.

This weekend’s slate starts with the Colts hosting the Owen Sound Attack on Thursday night. Barrie stays at home to take on the Windsor Spitfires on Saturday before heading north to Owen Sound for a rematch against the Attack on Sunday afternoon.

Tickets for Colts’ home games can be found here.
