Barrie’s semi-professional soccer outfit finds itself smack dab in the middle of the League1 Ontario table through the season’s opening stretch.
Through seven games, the Simcoe County Rovers have posted a 2-2-3 record, leaving them sixth in the 11-team league and well outside the title race.
On Saturday, during its most recent outing against the Markham-based Alliance United, Simcoe County drew 2-2, a strong result considering Alliance currently leads the league standings.
Next up, the Rovers will head south to take on Oakville SC on Sunday at 2 p.m.
It’s the first of three consecutive road games for the Rovers, who will also travel to London and Vaughan for games next week, before returning to Barrie to host North Toronto at J.C. Massie field later this month.
Simcoe County’s middling stretch of play is a continuation from last season, when the side finished fifth in the table, and 19 points behind the league champion Scrosoppi FC, based in Milton, Ont.
In 2023, the Rovers won their first title in franchise history, qualifying them for the Canadian football championships, where they matched up against Major League Soccer (MLS) teams.
