Police make arrest after man found with stolen debit, credit and ID cards

Date:

Barrie police have recovered credit, debit and personal identification cards after a medical distress call.

Officers from the Barrie Police Service were contacted by Barrie Fire and Emergency Services on Tuesday morning after they had responded to a report of a man in medical distress in the Ardagh Rd. area.

Police learned the 36-year-old man was in possession of credit, debit and personal identification cards that belonged to two other people. Police also learned the man had entered a nearby unlocked vehicle and stole a quantity of loose change.

Police say it appeared the man had been going through unlocked cars and taking whatever he could find. He was transported to a local hospital.

Later in the day, Barrie Police officers visited the man at the the hospital and he was arrested for two counts of failing to comply with probation order and possession of stolen property under $5,000. He was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 20.

Barrie Police urged residents to always make sure that when leaving your motor vehicle that no valuables, purses or wallets are left behind and that your doors are always locked.
