On April 8th, at approximately 2:45 A.M., emergency services responded to reports of a fire on the 100 block of Laurier Avenue West. While there were no reported injuries, the incident is considered suspicious and the Ottawa Police Service Arson and Explosion Unit is investigating. Investigators are asking anyone with information, including surveillance or dashcam footage from the area at the time, to come forward.
On April 2nd, at approximately 2:28 p.m., Ottawa Police Service officers responded to the 2800 block of Riverside Drive for a suspicious incident. On April 3, police located and arrested two men in connection with the incident and seized a firearm. Two men, aged 27 and 30, are each facing multiple drug and firearms-related charges, including careless use of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm without a valid licence and registration, and possession of a loaded firearm. Anyone with information related to this incident or other firearm-related activity is asked to contact the Guns and Gangs Unit.
On April 13th, the Ottawa Police Service’s Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit (SACA) arrested and charged an Ottawa resident with sexual offences following an investigation that commenced in 2024. James Edmond Larabie, 39 years of age, is charged with one count each of the following: Abduct Person Under Sixteen Years, Sexual Interference with a person under 16 Years of Age, Invitation to Sexual Touching, Sexual Assault, Unlawfully Possess Child Pornography, Transmit Child Pornography, Print/Publish/Possess to Publish Child Sexual Abuse Material, Make Available Sexually Explicit Material to Person Under or Believed under 18 years for specific criminal offences, Telecommunication with a Person under or Believed Under 18 Years for Specific Criminal Offences, and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. Larabie was scheduled to appear in court the morning of April 13th, 2026. SACA investigators believe there could be other victims in and around the Ottawa area and are encouraging anyone with information to call the Ottawa Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Unit.
On April 11th, at approximately 11 P.M., OPS officers responded to reports of an injured man in the area of George Street and William Street, in the Byward Market. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from what appeared to be a stab wound. The victim was transported to hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition. At this time, there have not been any suspects identified and no one has been arrested, thus the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information, including video footage from the area around the time of the incident, is asked to contact the Central Criminal Investigations Section.
