The Barrie Baycats have signed outfielder Edgar Figueroa, bringing to the diamond a player the team describes as a “highly accomplished international player.”
Figueroa, who hails from Pimentel, Dominican Republic, has spent three seasons in the Nicaraguan Winter League, leading the league in batting once.
He also spent two seasons in Colombia, where he also captured a batting title. In the Dominican Republic, Figueroa played four seasons with Gigantes del Cibao.
He’s also spent time playing in Venezuela and Mexico, along with competition throughout Brazil, Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Colombia.
Internationally, Figueroa is a member of the Dominican National Team, where he has earned two Gold Gloves, two batting titles, and recognition as Pan American and Central American Athlete of the Year.
He’s also spent parts of three seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization and while playing in the Dominican Summer League, he was the batting leader for two seasons and earned two MVP awards.
