Barrie Police identified live ammunition among items donated to a store that sells reusable items, police wrote in a news release on Jan. 9.
The store was unable to identify who donated the ammunition, but kept staff safe and reported the suspected ammunition to police, the release said.
Police said people wishing to get rid of firearms, ammunition or weapons can contact the Police Service for safe disposal.
“When contacted, police will clearly identify the proper process by which these items can properly and safely be turned in for destruction and will work with the owner to ensure that the process identified is followed,” the news release stated.
Also from the police:
“When you are asked to leave, it is best to leave” — Police say a 26-year-old male who was repeatedly asked to leave a convenience store on Jan. 13 “discovered very quickly that the request was simple, and that refusing to leave, was a poor decision.”
In a news release, Barrie police said the man was asked to leave the store on Cundles Road West by the owner just after 11:30 p.m. When police arrived on scene, he still refused to leave, and was taken into custody.
The man has been charged with “failure to leave premises when directed” under the Trespass to Property Act, and charged criminally for resisting a peace officer.
