Barrie Colts score 15-year deal to stay at the Sadlon Arena

Date:

The Barrie Colts will continue to call the Sadlon Arena home, thanks to a newly signed 15-year lease agreement with the City of Barrie.

The long-term deal, backed by Mayor Alex Nuttall and Barrie City Council, secures the team’s presence in the city for years to come.
Howie Campbell, current president and owner of the Barrie Colts, said he’s thrilled the team will continue to stay at the Sadlon Arena.

“On behalf of the entire Barrie Colts organization, I would especially like to thank Mayor Nuttall for all his hard work and the City of Barrie council and staff for reaffirming their continued support of the Colts with this new 15-year lease agreement,” he said.

“Mayor Nuttall’s tireless efforts on this agreement are very much appreciated. This agreement solidifies and continues our commitment to the city, community and our great fans.”

Mayor Nuttall said the Colts will generate significant economic benefits for the city.

“The Barrie Colts are a key employer and according to a report by Destinations International, the Colts will have a direct economic impact to the City of Barrie of over $640 million dollars over the term of the agreement,” he said.

Under the new deal, the Colts will contribute over $8 million to the Sadlon Arena’s operating costs and invest $1.5 million in upgrades, on top of $1 million already spent. If the city proceeds with expansion plans, the Colts will help fund it.

They will also donate over $2 million to local charities, $2 million in scholarships, and $1.5 million to schools through their 20-year Adopt-A-School program, where schools earn $6 per ticket sold.

The Barrie Colts have donated over $3 million to local charities and support more than 50 schools annually. They generate $43 million a year for the local economy and provide 150+ jobs, along with internships that give youth real-world experience in sports management.
