Ice storm impacts & cleanup operations
The City of Barrie is continuing cleanup efforts following the recent storm. Crews are actively working across the city, prioritizing roads, parks, and public spaces. Cleanup will take time due to the extent of the damage, and we appreciate your patience.
As of the week of April 7, the City of Barrie is getting assistance from many other Ontario municipalities. Now that the extra help has arrived, the City will collect any brush that is piled at the curb.
Please note: The City’s yard waste collection program is also underway, but it operates
separately from the ice storm cleanup. See below for more details.

Yard waste collection now underway
The City’s yard waste collection program is now underway with every-other-week collection,
opposite your garbage week. Place regular yard waste curbside by 7 a.m. on your scheduled collection day (4:30 a.m. in the downtown BIA).
Yard waste collection is taking place separately from ice storm cleanup operations. Ice storm cleanup crews have special equipment that enables chipping of brush piled curbside. Yard waste collection drivers are equipped with collection truck equipment that allows only for the safe collection of properly packaged yard waste.

Recycling Depot open for 2025 season | No residential brush tipping fees
The City is waiving residential brush tipping fees at the landfill site until Friday, May 2, to
support storm cleanup. The landfill is located at 272 Ferndale Drive North and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Recycling Depot, located at the lower gate area of the site, is temporarily accepting small loads of residential brush debris. Large loads/commercial traffic must use the upper landfill/scales. Please be patient as we work to manage the increased demand.

The 2025 theme, Colours of our Community, invites artists to showcase their unique style through community-inspired designs.
Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Selected artists will be
