Police charge 17-year-old with firearms, drug possession offences after responding to car meet

Barrie Police on Sunday charged a 17-year-old with several drug and gun offences after responding to an unauthorized car meet near Johnson’s Beach.

Police say officers were dispatched to a parking lot after 11 p.m. to respond to a report that 30-40 people had gathered and were “loudly revving the engines of their cars and some were doing manoeuvres that emitted large amounts of smoke from their tires.”

Upon arriving on the scene, officers said an 17-year-old male youth from Barrie was found to be in possession of cannabis and while being arrested, a satchel he was wearing was searched and a loaded semi-automatic firearm as well as suspected fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, Canadian currency and paraphernalia related to the sale of illegal drugs was seized.

The accused, whose identity cannot be released because of their age, was then transported to police HQ and charged with 17 offences, including possession of a firearm, cannabis, cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine. The full charges are listed below:

  • Carry Firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammo in careless manner
  • Possession of Prohibited device or ammo for dangerous purpose
  • Carry Concealed Weapon
  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
  • Possession of a firearm, prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
  • Possession for the purpose – Cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose – Fentanyl
  • Possession for the purpose – Methamphetamine
  • Possession CDSA – Cocaine
  • Possession CDSA – Fentanyl
  • Possession CDSA – Methamphetamine
  • Fail to comply with YCJA probation
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.
