Large Canada flag unveiled and flying high in Barrie

Date:

Oh, Canada! Just in time for Canada Day, the City of Barrie has raised a massive 35-by 70-foot Canadian flag atop a 150-foot flagpole at the Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus.

The $250,000 project was funded by real estate development company Skyline, which  is leading a major residential development project on Grove Street West.

Said to be one of the largest Canadian flags in Central Ontario, the flag was unveiled  with Mayor Alex Nuttall and other officials in attendance.

“This flag isn’t just a new landmark, it’s a symbol of the pride we feel for our city, our  province, and our country,” Nuttall said.

“We are grateful to Skyline for stepping forward and making this possible at no cost to  taxpayers. This Canada Day, our patriotic pride will be highlighted for both residents and  folks just passing through on their way to the cottage.”

Jason Castellan, CEO and co-founder of Skyline, said it was a pleasure to work with the  city to complete the project so quickly.

“We’re honoured to be part of this,” he said.

“Unveiling the flag just ahead of Canada Day — a day that resonates deeply with Skyline,  with Barrie, and with communities across the country — makes this moment especially  meaningful.”

Coun. Jim Harris, who represents the area where the flagpole is located and attended  the flag raising, said it’s the perfect way to show Canadian pride.

“It’s an important time for our city, our province and our country, so let’s celebrate it. I’m  really pleased to be a part of this,” he said.

The site for the flagpole was chosen due to the close visibility from Highway 400.
