Georgian men’s volleyball team hold top-seed entering Ontario playoffs

Date:

The Georgian College men’s volleyball team will be heavy favourites in the first round of the provincial collegiate postseason.

The top-seeded Grizzlies will host St. Clair College (Windsor, Ont.) on Saturday, with the winner progressing to the Ontario Collegiate Athletics Association (OCAA) quarterfinals.

The Grizzlies wrapped up the number one seed in the OCAA east division, finishing with an impressive 17-1 record over the year.

Georgian’s only loss this season came on the road against Centennial College, who came second-place in the division.

Meanwhile, St. Clair posted a 6-12 record this year, and are coming off back-to-back losses entering the postseason.

It will be the first matchup between the two schools this year, though Georgian did drop a preseason game against St. Clair last September.

This weekend’s game is at 2 p.m. ET at Michele McConney Court on the Georgian campus.

In the latest OCAA rankings, the Grizzlies placed second, behind only Humber College, who clinched top-seed in the west division with a 16-2 record. The two teams have yet to square off this season, but Humber also beat Georgian in a preseason showcase, winning three sets to one.

The Grizzlies came tenth in this week’s national collegiate rankings

The postseason will conclude later this month, while the national championship will be hosted by Providence University College (Otterburne, Man.) in March.
