Barrie-area Conservative incumbents John Brassard and Doug Shipley have secured
re-election in the 2025 Canada Federal Election. Brassard will return to Ottawa to
represent the riding of Barrie South–Innisfil, whereas Shipley will represent Barrie–
Springwater–Oro-Medonte.
Brassard secured nearly 58% of the vote, while Shipley received over 51%. Meanwhile,
the federal Liberal Party was re-elected nationally, forming a minority government.
Speaking to a crowd of supporters at Linx Kitchen + Social eatery in Barrie, Brassard
expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed to his victory.
“When you look at this crowd — the diversity here, people young and old — it’s just
amazing to me that so many stepped up to help us in this campaign,” he said. “I’m so grateful, and I will be forever grateful, for all the work everyone did.”
He said he was proud of the campaign led by Tory leader Pierre Poilievre, but
disappointed that the Conservatives failed in forming government.
“I’m very proud of the campaign that Pierre Poilievre ran — I thought we ran a terrific
campaign,” he said.
“I’m disappointed with the results nationally. I thought we had a strong message, but it’s
obvious the message didn’t resonate the way we thought it would.”
Shipley expressed gratitude for his re-election and thanked his team for their support.
“I’m very honoured to go back to Ottawa to represent the great people of Barrie–
Springwater–Oro-Medonte,” he said.
“I had a great team behind me. We worked incredibly hard during this campaign – I’m
thankful to my family, friends and volunteers for seeing me through it again.”
Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall congratulated Brassard and Shipley, expressing his eagerness
to continue collaborating with them on addressing the city’s challenges.
“Both of them worked incredibly hard to gain re-election so I congratulate them on their
victories,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and getting to work together again as part of
Team Barrie.”
Brassard was elected for the first time in 2015, while Shipley secured his first election
win in 2019.
