Committee approves zoning to bring 1,000 housing units to Orleans, Barrhaven

Date:

The Planning and Housing Committee has approved a zoning amendment to clear the way for continued development of properties in Orleans and Barrhaven that promise to bring nearly 1,000 housing units.

The approved amendment in Orleans facilitates the development near Innes Road and Lamarche Avenue for 468 stacked unites and a 3,400-square-metre park for the neighbourhood.

In Barrhaven, the zoning will now allow for the continuing development of a subdivision between Strandherd Drive and the Jock River near Borrisokane Road. The next phases of the subdivision would have a mix of single-family homes, townhouses and stacked townhouses for a total of 508 dwellings and required a zoning amendment to move forward.

Committee referenced council’s commitment to expand opportunities for home builders to create 151,000 market homes by 2031. The zoning amendments approved at committee, and again by council on Wednesday, will allow applicants to build 976 new dwellings in Ottawa.

The zoning amendments were approved at Wednesday’s city council meeting.
