Man refuses to leave GO Train
Around 1 a.m. on Feb. 5 Barrie Police Service responded to reports from GO Transit that a man was pretending to be asleep on a train and refusing to leave, police said in a news release.
Upon police arrival, the man, 45, continued to be uncooperative, police said, leading to his arrest under the Trespass to Property Act. It was then learned that he was wanted on outstanding warrants from another police service.
Barrie Police then met with officers from that service and the man was transferred into their custody.
Impaired driving
On Feb. 3, police received information from another police service warning of a suspected impaired driver who was operating a school bus with passengers onboard and driving towards a Barrie secondary school.
The driver, 48, was a man from Oro-Medonte Township and was located, arrested and charged with impaired driving.
No police were reported and the driver has been released. He will appear in court in Barrie on Feb. 19, police say.
The day before, a 38-year-old man from Barrie was been charged with impaired driving among other traffic-related charges after being intercepted by an officer from the Barrie Police Service Traffic Unit on the evening of Feb. 2.
A vehicle was identified speeding without lights on and was forced to stop due to oncoming traffic. An officer who was monitoring speed on Big Bay Point Road observed signs of impairment and arrested the driver. The man later was confirmed to be almost four times over the legal limit of alcohol impairment.
The driver has been charged with impaired driving, driving with a blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), operating a motor vehicle without insurance, and a number of Highway Traffic Act charges related to his driving, police said.
The accused’s license has been suspended for 90 days, the vehicle he was driving has been impounded for seven days, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 10.

A delivery truck was overserved travelling in the area at 105 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone. The driver was identified as a 41-year-old man from Toronto and was charged with speeding and excessive speed. His license has been suspended for 30 days and the truck he was operating has been impounded for 14 days.
