Spring street sweeping continues
This year, staff began street sweeping in the south end of the city to accommodate the ongoing ice storm cleanup. Staff are now working in the Source Water Protection Area zones, as the downed trees and debris in the north are no longer impacting sweeping operations.
Spring street sweeping removes sand and debris left from winter road maintenance, improves water quality by reducing runoff pollutants, and enhances the appearance of city streets and parking lots.

Ice storm cleanup continues across Barrie
Cleanup efforts continue following the late March ice storm, with significant support from other
Ontario municipalities. Crews have completed initial brush collection city-wide and are now
conducting second and third passes in heavily impacted areas. Work continues daily in parks
and natural spaces to assess damage, remove hazards, and clear debris. For your safety, please avoid treed areas and trails that may still be unsafe due to falling branches.
Please note: The City’s yard waste collection program is also underway, but it operates
separately from the ice storm cleanup.
