Police execute warrants, issue arrests in drug investigation

Two men have been arrested and related search warrants were executed in connection with a lengthy investigation into drug trafficking in Barrie, police have said.

The 23 and 31-year-old men were arrested without incident at two different locations and are facing charges of possessing and trafficking cocaine and fentanyl. They are held in custody pending a bail hearing with the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie.

Patrol ends in arrest

During a proactive patrol on Feb. 24, a Barrie Police officer noticed a man who appeared to be sleeping in a business. Upon confirming the man’s identity, police found that two Ontario Provincial Police detachments held outstanding warrants for his arrest.

The man, 43, was arrested and transported to the police headquarters before being transferred into the custody of the OPP.

Four men arrested during theft

Barrie Police have arrested four men after responding to a theft in progress at a retail store in a north Barrie mall.

Police said they learned that six men wearing face masks had entered a store and stolen clothing, then fled towards an awaiting motor vehicle.

Responding officers located the involved motor vehicle, at which point occupants fled on food.

The Barrie Police Tactical Support Unit and Canine Unit located and took two suspects into custody. An ongoing search resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects. In total, four men were arrested, one of whom cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA)

The arrested persons, who all reside within the Greater Toronto Area, have all been charged with Theft under $5000, Disguise with Intent and are being held in custody for a bail hearing, which is scheduled to take place by video, later today, with the Ontario Court of Justice located in Barrie.

The investigation is ongoing as police continue working to identify the two outstanding suspects.

Wanted person arrested in Barrie

Barrie Police located and arrested a wanted person after his ankle monitor was unlawfully removed, police said in a news release.

Dustin Seddon of North Bay is facing multiple charges by the North Bay Police Service. After an investigation, members of the Barrie Police Service’s Tactical Support Unit and the Ontario Provincial Police Service’s Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) Squad and OPP Bail Support Team located Seddon at a residence in Barrie. He was then transported back to North Bay in custody.

Seddon, 29, has been charged with three counts of failure to comply with a release order and is being held pending a bail hearing at the North Bay courthouse.
