City seeking local art for traffic cabinet wraps

The City of Barrie is calling on local artists to submit original artwork for its annual traffic cabinet wrapping program. This initiative transforms traffic cabinets into public art, adding vibrancy to the city while helping to reduce graffiti. The 2025 theme, Colours of our Community, invites artists to showcase their unique style through community-inspired designs.

Proposals are due by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Selected artists will be compensated for their work and artwork installation will take place this fall.

On-street parking restrictions end on April 1

The City’s Overnight Parking By-law will be lifted on April 1, 2025, allowing on-street parking again between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m. within the Downtown Business Improvement Area and from 12:01 a.m. to 7 a.m. on other City streets. These seasonal restrictions, in place from December 1 through March 31, help ensure effective snow clearing and emergency vehicle access.

Please note that overnight on-street parking remains prohibited during a declared Winter Maintenance Event. Stay informed by checking the City’s website, social media channels, and mobile app for updates.

Second property tax installment due April 30, 2025

The second instalment of the interim 2025 property tax bill is due on April 30, 2025. Interim tax bills are issued each January. If your taxes are paid through a mortgage company or a pre-authorized payment plan, you would not have received an interim tax bill. The final bill ​is issued each May and typically arrives in mailboxes by early June.

Barrie Transit Route 2 extension now in effect

As part of Phase 2 Transit adjustments and rider feedback, Route 2 has been extended to service the Pringle and Sproule neighbourhoods as a replacement for Transit ON Demand Zone G.

Route 2 will maintain the same service hours as Zone G and operate with a peak frequency of every 30 minutes between Park Place and downtown.
